Principles
AAA believes that:
- All animals experience feelings and thus should be treated humanly.
- We must as humans do all can to minimize the suffering of animals.
- Animals are living creatures and not tools for humans, thus other options should be utilized.
- We must protect our rare and endangered animals to ensure their existence for future generations.
Goals
- To put an end to live animal exports- Australian exports millions of sheep and thousands of cattle to the Middle East where there are no laws to protect them from acts of cruelty.Once in the Middle East, Australian sheep are routinely purchased, bound, and shoved into car boots in a region where temperatures reach 50°C in summer. Both sheep and cattle have their throats cut whilst fully conscious, suffering prolonged, distressing and painful deaths. We aim to get a ban put into place immediately and stop this horrid treatment.
- Ban Whaling- Claimed to be for "scientific research" the poorly disguised commercial operation run by Japan kills Whales daily and puts the species at risk of extinction, the frightful and painful death of a whale is a tragedy, Whales are majestic creatures who are now suffering at the hands of the commercial whaling business. We Advocate for laws against Whaling, and for a treaty to be signed by all countries outlawing Whaling in any form for any purpose.
- Put a stop to animal testing- The vast majority of animals used in research are subjected to some degree of pain or stress during experimental procedures to which they may be subjected, or as a result of the environment in which they are kept prior to or after those procedures. We at AAA aim to utilize alternatives and eradicate the need for animal testing.
- Ensure the protection of rare and endangered animals- Australia is home to between 600,000 and 700,000 species, many of which are found nowhere else in the world, There are a total of 427 endangered or threatened species in Australia. We will work towards securing the future for these animals by advocating for changes to the legislation and funding to ensure these animals will be here for future generations.
- To ban Rodeos and the use of animals as entertainment in circuses- Rodeos are a cruel spectator sport, condemned by all animal protection organisations, in which bulls, horses and sometimes other animals are physically provoked into displaying 'wild' behaviour by the use of such devices as spurs, electric prods and flank straps. Rodeo animals suffer many kinds of injuries, and are sometimes killed or have to be destroyed. In the UK and Europe rodeos have been banned, this is our goal for Australia.
- Enforce harsher penalties to those convicted of animal abuse- The maximum penalty for animal abuse is 12 months jail time in most states, all animals feel pain and under no circumstances should be mistreated. Those convicted of animal cruelty should face harsher penalties and we at AAA believe the punishment does not fit the crime. We aim to change legislation and bring forward the issue that is animal cruelty.
